Workshop background information
Sue and Kosta have created new performance; installation and outreach work over the last 13 years. All their work is rooted in the explorative creative process. Over the years they have developed a personal approach to artistic creation, starting with a movement warm up sequence which allows collaborators to open up, to develop presence, receptiveness of space, objects and people. An environment where the human dimension, individual and shared ‘stories’ can come to the surface and find form.

The Performer-creator is at the heart of everything that is alive, fresh, new, surprising and stimulating, and at the heart of the creative industries. This means going beyond styles, products and pitches, and tapping into the creative forces, which shape life and art. The workshop is an environment, which will allow the unexpected, the poetic, and unpredictable, essential and human to be explored.

Suitable for CPD Funding.

Elderly people’s workshop 2008
‘Our time – people’s lives’

The Company has piloted a unique participatory residency programme for elderly people, working through gentle movement and improvisation in a group setting. Initially funded by London Councils and London Borough of Barking & Dagenham, this project found a very warm reception and resulted in an acclaimed installation/exhibition of sound, photos and slides at The Chocolate Factory in Wood Green, North London. The Company is now developing a series of residencies in Wiltshire and London during 2008 and is looking for strong and interested partners.

Messing Around 2008~09

‘Messing Around’ is an interactive demonstration-workshop for young people. International performance artist Kosta Andrea has over the last decade developed a challenging and entertaining approach to introducing young people to the phenomenon of devising new theatre. Focusing on the creative process, on the messing around, the teaching builds on the experience and background of the participants and highlights the relationship of art and life. London Councils funded a pilot during 2006 to develop this approach into a performance setting, where Kosta works with a group in front of audience of up to 200 young people (and teachers), which gives the occasion a welcome theatrical feel and concentration.

The Company is planning to roll out Messing Around in Wiltshire, the South West and London during 2008/2009. For more information please contact the Company on info@sukosta.com, Tel: 01225 864972

Messing Around
Critical to the success of the work so far seems to be the commitment to the quality and openness of participation by young people. It was great to see the growing levels of awareness and self-confidence of the participants. It was also very good to see the connections made between the spatial awareness and physical skills of visual theatre and those of sports like football and kick-boxing. Particularly in the context of schools this creates a key access point for participants. I am glad you have taken the decision to take the workshops into a more public arena by sharing the work with the students' peers and teachers at the end of the working process. It is exactly in this way that the positive impact of the work ripples out through whole school environments and out into the community. Matthew Jones, Producer, Nitro (Formerly David Glass Ensemble)
